European Travel Luggage
Purchasing high quality European travel luggage is important for your inexpensive European vacation.
European travel luggage has essentially the same characteristics as the
best travel luggage.
When shopping for luggage make sure that you: “Buy once, buy right!”
Investing time up front (and a little extra money) to buy quality luggage, with the right features and ruggedness will save you money, time and frustration in the long run.
Trying to get through a busy airport with low quality luggage (bad rollers, stuck zippers etc) can be an incredible inconvenience.
Rugged Material Expandable Luggage
High quality luggage will serve you well on your vacations for many years to come.
Here are some key characteristics when shopping for the best travel luggage.
European Travel Luggage Ruggedness
Material luggage today is much better than the old hard case inflexible luggage. There are good reasons that there is less of the hard case luggage.
Material luggage is more flexible which allows for more packing space, it has more compartments and is just as rugged (or more) than hard case luggage.
Here are a few things to consider when purchasing material luggage.
• Make sure the stitching is first class.
• Make sure the wheels are sturdy and are close to flush with the luggage. The flush wheels will allow easy storage in overhead airplane bins.
• The zippers need to be extremely rugged for all the abuse they are put through. A stuck zipper (when you need to get something out of the luggage) in the middle of a busy airport is no fun at all.
• Luggage with several compartments is very helpful.
This allows you great flexibility when packing to separate various items.
The optimal size for large luggage is the largest size that will fit in airline overhead bins (but not too big). This provides a nice compromise between luggage volume and ease of moving around airports. #1
Look for luggage with several compartments. That can help you with organizing your clothes and other travel items more effectively.
Consider luggage with a volume extension. A zipper is used to open up this expandable area (think of it like opening one section of an accordion) which increases the thickness of the luggage by approximately 2-3 inches. That relates to a volume increase of 15-20 percent!
Using the extension will make it so the luggage must be checked since it will be too thick to fit in the overhead bin. However, having flexibility in what you can take is a good thing. I have used this style of luggage for years and the flexibility it provides for packing is extremely convenient.
Note #1: Think twice if you have to buy very large luggage that you always have to check. It can be a hassle maneuvering it through airports, up and down staircases, escalators and so forth. If you absolutely need that much space then go for it. However, if you can fit downsize your items to fit in smaller sized luggage your travels will be much easier.
Medium Size Luggage
A good second piece of luggage is duffle bag size. It is good to purchase this piece of luggage with your larger piece. Many pieces of luggage fit together nicely and make traveling through busy airports much easier.
European Travel Luggage Accessories
Consider accessories when you are shopping for luggage. Determine what works best. These might include a universal electrical converter that will work in most electrical outlets in the world, rugged luggage tags, a flexible hamper for your dirty clothes and more.
... A Word of Caution: Be careful of buying accessories you will probably never use on your vacation—even if it does seem like a great deal.
