Galapagos Islands Ecuador Vacations are fun!

The Galapagos Ecuador islands are located about 600 miles west of Ecuador South America in the Pacific Ocean. They are distributed around the equator.

The Islands are volcanic, primitive, pristine and stunning. They are geologically young and have many endemic species.

A vacation here may only last a week or two but the memories last a lifetime.

The Galapagos Islands are a providence of Ecuador, a national park and a biological marine reserve. This is good since the islands are still being explored in detail by scientists, naturalists, and adventurers.

The first crude charting of the Galapagos Islands was done by Ambrose Cowley in 1684. The names of the individual islands was of fellow pirates or English noblemen who supported the pirates cause.

The Galapagos Islands were made famous by an English naturalist Charles Darwin. He studied the endemic species in detail on a voyage of a ship called the Beagle.

His collections and observations led to the book “On the Origin of Species”. This work proposes that all species descend from common ancestors.

Darwin’s theory of evolution has been mostly embraced by the scientific community and hotly debated by much of the religious community.
