The Galapagos Islands became Ecuador's first National Park.

I have been on a Galapagos Islands vacation. Before going others told me amazing things about the islands. I thought they couldn't be as incredible as others had said. I was wrong.

It was amazing to find they were everything that I had been told was true...and there was much more. The Islands are primitive, rustic, wild, beautiful and magical. It was one of the most incredible trips I have ever taken. A friend and I spent 6 days diving and 3 days of land tours. Below is a snippet of our adventures.

On our third day of diving our boat traveled towards Cousins Rock near the isle of Bartolome. One of the shipmates pointed off the port bow to a population of dolphins. It was the largest pod of dolphins I had ever seen—probably three to five hundred or more.

Sub-groups of five to ten graceful creatures took turns breaking the surface of the glistening turquoise water with their arched backs. Some swim playfully in front of our speeding craft.

My friend Ron mentioned to our dive master Macarron that he had never swam with wild dolphins before and would like to do so. Macarron asked the boat captain to stop and he happily did.

Several of us donned our dive suits, masks and snorkels. We jumped into the water with these superb mammals. Ron and I both took our cameras and had a great time photographing their animated forms all around us.

Ron was busy video taping the dolphins when all of a sudden; Macarron swam by him like a bullet. Ron turned to follow Macarron thinking that there must be something really great to see.

In a matter of seconds though Macarron’s fins were disappearing into the boat. He had leaped into the craft without using the ladder. Macarron immediately stood up pointing almost straight down into the ocean and yelled “BIG SHARK!”

Everyone in the water dunked their face-masks in unison. We all saw large aggressive Galapagos sharks swimming about twenty-five feet below us. Everybody scurried to get back to the safety of the boat. Although humorous to look back on now, it was a bit frightening at the time.

Epilogue to Galapagos Islands Pictures

Our vacation to the Galapagos Islands was a total of thirteen days. I took a ton of land and underwater Galapagos Islands Pictures.

The land and sea animals we saw, our adventures, and the friends we made along the way created a trip of a lifetime. These enchanted islands are truly a Mecca for nature lovers.

For any wildlife adventurer contemplating a vacation to the Galapagos I only have one recommendation. GO!

It’s worth the money and travel time to experience a place that is still primitive, pristine and unbelievably beautiful in ways that can only be understood when you walk where Charles Darwin once did.

Then, you can take your own Galapagos Island Pictures!
