The Detroit Skyline
Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village
Detroit is known as the “Motor City” because of its influence on the automotive industry. The Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village celebrate the the automotive industry along with other famous Americana.
The other famous Americana includes John F. Kennedy’s presidential limousine he was shot in, Thomas Edison’s laboratory and Abraham Lincoln’s chair from Fords Theatre. The museum also has the Wright Brothers bicycle shop, the Rosa Parks bus and a collection of several 17th and 18th century violins including a Stradivarius.
This is the nation’s largest indoor-outdoor history museum complex. It is definitely a five goose bump museum.
Henry Ford Mansion – Fair Lane
This historic landmark was built by Henry and Clara Ford in 1914. Henry Ford was a great nature lover and helped design the estate to blend into the environment nicely. There are sculptured wooded areas, river walks, wooded areas and more. There are public and group tours.
Motown Historical Museum
Besides being known as the Motor City, Detroit also has the nickname “Motown” because of its influence on pop music. The Motown Museum celebrates that heritage. You will learn about music greats such as Stevie Wonder, Smokey Robinson and the Miracles, The Supremes, the Temptations, Rare Earth and more.
You can visit Studio A which was Motown’s original recording studio. At the museum you will review memorabilia in photos, videos, newspaper clippings and more.

The Detroit Institute of Arts has one of the largest and most significant art collections in the United States with over 60,000 pieces of art. Detroit Science Center
